Pets Are Family Too!

Here’s a picture of Hibiscus, one of my puppy dogs. She looks rather comfortable, don’t you think? Sleeping away in my bed!

Animals have come a long way in their relationships with people. In our modern American culture – and many populations across the world domesticated animals have become treasured pets, a part of the family. This pooch certainly wouldn’t be sleeping under the covers if she didn’t have a very special place in my heart!

I call my three dogs and two cats my children and I consider them important members of my family. I know that so many of you with pets feel the same way.

Next month I’m officiating a wedding and the two family dogs will pay important roles in that ceremony.

If pets are important in your life, don’t forget to include them when honoring your life transitions. I’ve spoken about snakes, dogs and cats during ceremonies and had dogs attend Celebration of Life memorial services. I’ve officiated at pet funerals, and now I will have puppies as key participants in a wedding.

Our pets bring great pleasure and joy to our lives – don’t be shy about honoring their impact!
