Push Present: I just recently learned that this is a gift given by Dad to Mom to celebrate the occasion of a brand new baby!
Have you ever given or received a Push Present? Or known a new mom who has received one?
My mom did not!
And, I had never heard of one until about a month ago when the celebrity world was all alive with Kanye West’s Push Present for Kim Kardashian, a ¾ of a $million black and tiger stripe diamond ring. I thought – that’s quite a gift – and that’s the Kardashians!
And now, the talk is about Kate Middleton, and the rumored Push Present her husband, Prince William is having the Queen’s jewelers create, a pink diamond-encrusted brooch. It’s reported that he has been planning this thank you gift for a long time, even studying art history to come up with something beautiful and appropriate for Kate’s personal liking.
Princess Diana received an engraved golden medallion from Prince Charles as a Push Present when William was born, so this concept is not brand new. Wikipedia notes it has been a long held tradition in both England and India; while Push Presents are a more recent idea here in the United States.
What do you think? Is this a valuable tradition to embrace or is it just an avenue to commercialize motherhood? Babies are a gift in and of themselves, but moms often go through difficulties during those nine months of pregnancy, their bodies need repair afterwards, and hey – childbirth can be painful!
Maybe now that many Daddy’s are more involved in the pregnancy process they realize that mommy might deserve a nice thank you for all she has been through! Spoil mom, she Deserves it!!
I say, if it’s a thoughtful and specially selected gift, (as any good gift is) that Push Presents can be a beautiful family tradition, something that new Mom will have to always commemorate and cherish that special time of motherhood for each baby.
And, if you want to show it off – have it on display when you have your Baby Welcoming Ceremony for all of your friends and family!!
