Small Funeral Observations

I recently created and officiated at a couple of small Celebrations of Life memorial ceremonies.

One ceremony had two people in attendance, the deceased sister and nephew. The other ceremony was performed before a small crowd (5-6) of fellow senior living center neighbors.

Both of these individuals had lived long lives, and outlived most of their friends and family.

And even though there wasn’t a large crowd in attendance to say goodbye, the energy for the ceremony was still strong in the atmosphere. There was still a life to be honored, stories to be told, and goodbyes to be said.

If you are the one left behind, and you feel the need to say goodbye to your loved one with a formal ceremony– always take the opportunity, regardless of how many others may or may not be there. Death is a very important transition to recognize. Allow yourself occasion for personal goodbye and closure.

It never matters the size of the crowd, just the size of the hearts of those who are in attendance.
